Panama Lecture at Chiba University
Mrs. Zaradeeth del Real, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. and Second Secretary of the Embassy of Panama in Japan, delivered a lecture at Chiba University on May 28, 2026, further strengthening the bonds of friendship, academic exchange, and mutual understanding between Panama and Japan.
Prior to the lecture, Mrs. Del Real paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Koutaro Yokote, President of Chiba University, where both sides exchanged views on the importance of educational diplomacy and the promotion of closer academic ties between Panama and Chiba University.
The visit formed part of the lecture series jointly coordinated by the Japan Association for the Promotion of Latin America and the Caribbean (JAPOLAC) and Chiba University, in collaboration with the diplomatic missions of Latin America and the Caribbean accredited to Japan. Conducted in English, the lectures provide students with a valuable opportunity to engage with senior diplomats while fostering a greater understanding of Latin America and the Caribbean within the Japanese academic community.
During the meeting with President Yokote, Mrs. Del Real expressed her appreciation for the strengthened relationship between Chiba University and the Panama Technological University and emphasized the important role that educational exchanges play in promoting international understanding, friendship, and cooperation among nations.
The lecture attracted students from various faculties who were interested in learning more about Panama’s history, geography, political system, economy, diplomatic relations, the Panama Canal, and environmental policies. In her presentation, Mrs. Del Real highlighted Panama’s position as one of the few carbon-negative countries in the world and explained the significance of the Río Indio Project, which aims to enhance the long-term water supply necessary for the sustainable operation of the Panama Canal.
The event also served to encourage future academic exchanges between Panama and Japan in various fields.
