Ambassador of the Dominican Republic Delivers Lecture at Chiba University
Chiba University recently welcomed the visit of the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Japan, Edward Pérez Reyes, who delivered a diplomatic lecture to Japanese students as part of the lecture series promoted by JAPOLAC to foster greater understanding of Latin America and the Caribbean among Japanese university students.
Prior to the lecture, Ambassador Pérez Reyes paid a courtesy visit to the President of Chiba University, Kotaro Yokote, with whom he exchanged views on strengthening academic and cultural ties between Japan and the Dominican Republic, as well as on the importance of educational diplomacy and international exchange in an increasingly interconnected world.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the value of promoting greater mutual understanding between Japan and Latin America and the Caribbean through academic initiatives, student exchanges, and cultural activities aimed at bringing younger Japanese generations closer to the realities and diversity of the Latin American region.
The lecture, delivered in English, provided students with a valuable opportunity to interact directly with a high-level diplomatic representative and gain first-hand knowledge of various aspects of the Dominican Republic, including its history, culture, tourism, economic development, foreign policy, and bilateral relations with Japan. The event also helped deepen students’ understanding of the strategic role of the Caribbean in the contemporary international landscape.
Students from various academic disciplines actively participated in the session, asking questions about the political, economic, and social realities of the Dominican Republic, as well as opportunities for cooperation between Japan and Caribbean nations. The lecture generated a dynamic atmosphere of cultural and academic exchange, further strengthening the international perspective of the participants.
Chiba University, one of Japan’s leading national universities, maintains a strong commitment to internationalization and to the development of academic programs aimed at fostering globally minded students.
For its part, JAPOLAC will continue promoting this diplomatic lecture series with ambassadors from Latin America and the Caribbean accredited in Japan, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen mutual understanding, academic diplomacy, and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and the Latin American and Caribbean region.
